How to Wear Lipstick

IMG_1270

A few weeks ago, a friend of mine told me she was scared to wear lipstick. I sympathize, because believe it or not, sometimes I’m still scared to wear lipstick. As much as I love it, sometimes trying new colours, wearing lipstick somewhere I haven’t before (like to school, or out to dinner). There are a few tricks I’ve found useful to help with that little fear.

1. Practice. Practice, practice, practice. I started wearing lipstick when I was about twenty, I think. Before I wore it out, I’m pretty sure I wore it just around the house for a few weeks. It took a while for me to get used to seeing myself with those bright red lips. Every time I purchase a colour I haven’t worn before, I wear it at home for a bit, just to test it out.

2. Start small. If you’re still unsure about all that new colour on your lips, why not try something smaller? There are some really great tinted lip balms out there that will give your lips some colour, but aren’t so pigmented that they will be in your face.

3. Know what you like. If you like red, wear red, If you don’t, that’s okay. I have learned over the past few months that I don’t like nude lipsticks. I can’t stand the 90’s lip trend, because it looks terrible on me, and honestly, I’d rather wear a bright pink. Like all makeup, lipstick is meant for the individual. There will be a lot of colours or formulations you won’t like, and that’s okay.

I hope these tips helps if you if you’ve been scared to wear lipstick. Let me know in the comments if you have any questions or more suggestions, I’d love to hear from you!
