Spring Wardrobe Essentials (Casual)

Last month I shared my favourite trends for spring, so I thought today I would share a few of my own essentials from my closet. These are my most worn picks, the ones I chose over everything else and always seem to make it to the laundry bin at the end of the week.

springwardrobeessentials

  1. Dark Wash Skinny Jeans (American Eagle). I have owned a pair of these for at least five or six years. I’m sure I’ve bought a new one at least once a year and I’m not sure I’ll ever stop. These fit like a dream, and are the most flattering skinny jeans that I’ve found for my body.
  2. Striped Boat-Neck Top (H&M, similar). If you were to take a peek into my closet, you’d see how much I love stripes. My favourite thing about this top, besides the navy stripes (navy is my black) is the button detailing on the shoulder — just a little something extra to differentiate it from the rest of my stripes.

  3. Navy Polka Dot Top (Gap). When I don’t know what to wear, this is always my go-to. Just like Jessica Day I “rock a lot of polka dots”. It’s soft, goes well by itself, with a cardi or a blazer. You can tell from this picture, but the back is just plain, which makes it unique.

  4. Mini Stripe Boyfriend Fit Shirt (Gap, similar). I love this shirt because it’s like a cross between chambray and seersucker, but softer. I love to wear this with my hair up in a bun and a pink or red lip. It’s my favourite for the casual-yet-put-together look.

  5. Grey Slub Knit Sweater (Old Navy, similar). Even though Spring has its way to Alberta, there are still some cold days ahead. I love this sweater for a few reasons. One, the colour. Heather grey is probably my third favourite colour (pink, navy, heather grey) — the best light neutral. Two, the fabric. Although this is a sweater, it’s light enough that I don’t feel like I’m dying of heat when the sun decides to come out.

6. Black Miracle Straight Leg Pants (Ricki’s). You can’t go wrong with a great pair of black pants. The fit of these is seriously amazing. I love that they aren’t skinnies or jeggings, so I find that they can be dressed up easily, and are more flattering for me (they were my go-to pants when I was working retail). They also look great with flats or my favourite brown boots.
