Colourpop Super Shock Shadows | Review & Swatches

colourpopsupershockshadowsreviewA few weeks ago, I finally purchased a few shadows  from Colourpop. For over a year, I have wanted to try them out, but could never decide what shadows to get. While I was initially drawn to copper and bronze shades like Boy Band and Nillarionare, I decided to get a few colours that were different from what I already have in my ever-growing collection. With my current love for dark and warmer toned shadows, I chose a couple from the Fall 2015 collection, and others that go really well with them. From matte to metallic, Colourpop has a wide range of colours for every makeup style.

Party Time is dusty mauve with a matte finish. I like to apply this one with a brush, and find it blends really well for a deep crease shade, or in the outer corner. Cricket is a mid-tone plum with glitter and a metallic finish. I really love this shade with Party Time, or any of my matte purples. Partridge is the most unique to my collection. It’s a pearlized green duo chrome with a brown undertone. I wouldn’t normally choose a shade like this, but when I looked up swatches, I loved the shade and the dimension that it adds to a smoky eye. I definitely need to play with it more. Finally, there is Mixed Tape, which is a mid-tone cool grey, with a pearlized finish. This shade is definitely my favourite for every day, and looks great by itself or with a shade like Party Time in the crease.

While I said I like applying Party Time with a brush, I find the rest work best when applied with my fingers so that they maintain their metallic or pearlized finishes, and because of their unique texture which is almost like a cream, but not quite (if you’ve used them before, you know why it’s hard to describe). On their own, they work well, but I find that even though they are quite pigmented on their own, they do work best on top of other shadows. I do find that they will crease on me after about six hours or so (even when I use a primer), but that’s likely because of my very oily eyelids, and only when I don’t use any other shadow as a base. I will definitely continue to use these and look forward to all the looks I will be able to create. And of course, I will definitely be purchasing new shades in the future.

Have you tried any of the Colourpop Super Shock Shadows? What is your favourite shade?
