NAILS INC Gel Effect Mini Collection | Mani Monday

nailsincgeleffectminicollectionLast month, when I shared my haul from the Sephora VIB Sale, I said I would be sharing a review of the nail set from NAILS INC. soon. I hope you’re okay with my definition of soon, because a month later, I finally have some thoughts to share.

nailsincgeleffectcollectionThe Gel Effect Mini Collection contains five different shades perfect for spring. The colours range from nude to bright pink, and though I already have many similar shades in my polish collection right now, I was eager to try the formula (and not pay $17 a pop). Each bottle has 5 ml/0.17 oz, which is just less than half of the full size bottles.

nailsincgeleffectcollection-2The lighter shades, St. James Place (a light peach) and Trafalgar Mews (a soft pink) are lovely for anyone who loves a good nude (including myself). The formula is quite thick (especially compared to Essie polishes), but that is understandable since they are a gel formula. Since they are lighter, and not as pigmented, I did find that two coats were ideal for getting a streak-free application. They last really long, which is to be expected, especially given the higher end price tag. Personally, I prefer these on my toes over my nails at the moment. In fact, I wore St. James Place on my toes for nearly the entire month of April, and it didn’t chip at all.

nailsincgeleffectcollectionThe next three, Chelsea Park Lane (a dove grey), Portobello Terrace (bright sky blue) and Charles Street (hot pink) are even better when it comes to application. They go on easily with one coat (though the second time I used Charles Street it was slightly streaky and needed two to make it even). Although the formula is thicker (which I usually don’t love), they last longer than normal, even when I forget to put on a top coat.

The thing that I loved most, besides the longevity, was the brush, which I know is the standard NAILS INC. brush. It’s basically as wide as your nail, with a curved edge, which makes it ideal for getting polish only on the nail, and nowhere else. I am really terrible at applying nail polish (though I have improved over the years), but the brush makes it nearly impossible to mess up. I will definitely be trying out a few full size polishes from NAILS INC. in the future, because I imagine those would be even better.

Have you tried NAILS INC polishes before? Do you think they’re worth the splurge?
