That Sweet Scent of Summer

Over the last few years, I have really come around to perfume. I used to be all about the scented body lotion and always though perfume was for rich older women (I guess I’m just half of that combination now — and it’s not rich). Though my collection isn’t too large, it has grown and become more a perfume wardrobe. I find it quite easy to pick a scent in the fall because I generally prefer warm and sometimes floral (but not your grandmother’s floral) scents, but when it comes to summer and warmer temperatures, I want to smell as sweet as can be. While I used to only have one scent to wear in the summer, this year it’s expanded to three.

Prada, Candy Eau de Parfum. This is my original summer scent — or the one I’ve been using for at least 2-3 years now. The white musk note puts me in my happy place, but the addition of caramel keeps it sweet and not too overpowering. This is my go-to for date nights in the summer, but it also works well in the daytime since it’s not too overpowering or deep.

Marc Jacobs, Daisy Dream Eau de Toilette. This one sits more on the fruity end of the spectrum with a hint of floral as well, but I find the sweetness is more noticeable. It can be quite overpowering, so I typically have to spray it about an hour before I go out and I try to put it on before I get dressed, because I prefer the way it blends with my skin rather than my clothing. It has notes of  blackberry, pear and grapefruit as well as coconut water, jasmine and white musk, which makes for a really lovely combination.

Stella McCartney, POP Eau de Parfum. This one takes the cake for me right now. It’s described as “floral woody” scent, due to the notes of sandalwood, violet and plumeria, but it smells really sweet on me, likely due to the note of tuberose. I love that it’s such a bright scent, and perfect for daytime but much like Candy, it is versatile and can work for any occasion or hour.
